Creative Sampling in Ableton Live (Aaron Taylor-Waldman)
A practice-based approach to sampling in Ableton Live, with an emphasis on sound design and production techniques.
The workshop will focus on sampling techniques in Ableton Live as a way to process sounds and generate unique sonic material to use as a starting point in new compositions.
We’ll look at microsampling, resampling, and making a characterful drum kit out of personal sounds (like voice memos) using Ableton and M4L devices.
Aaron Taylor-Waldman is composer, producer, and sound designer who plays the “studio as an instrument”, blending modular synth, field recordings, and traditional instruments with a range of high-and-low-fidelity studio techniques. In addition to producing electronic music under the artist name ATW, he’s been creating music and sound design for commercial and cinematic music assignments, podcasts, and data sonification projects.
In his design practice, he’s designed record covers for artists like HAINBACH and Hiroshi Ebina, WFMU’s “Woof Moo” logo, and Patch Deck, a collection of patch tips for exploring modular synthesis.
